Well – I did it !

I stayed away from my husband John for 3 days and 2 nights, but don’t think that it was easy.

While I was in Hull I was very busy with Brian showing me round the excellent stroke service that is in place and I have to say that it was all a revelation to me ! In Cumbria we don’t have anything approaching the services that are in place in Hull but my visit has made me all the more determined to make sure that we do eventually.

I was well looked after by Pat, Brian, Dilys and Edgar and to them all I owe my thanks. Going away from home is never easy for a carer and they made sure that I enjoyed myself and didn’t have much time to be homesick. Can we go back to the Thai restaurant please?

I think that the one lesson that I have learned is that I needed a break and I would like to pass this on to other carers – THE WORLD CAN COPE WITHOUT YOU!

I came back refreshed and ready to take on the world again. In a way I wished that I’d done it sooner. It also gave John a sense of independence, something that I have probably inadvertently helped to erode since his stroke nearly 2 years ago. The only comment that he had was “Oh God you’ve been in the Disney Store – how much has that cost?”

So my thanks to everyone for making my visit so enjoyable
