RAY BEADLE

The plight of the long distant walker

It was a bright sunny morn nothing out of the norm, I liked to start at first light just me and the wildlife at 08.15 it was the start of my plight both feet were dragging one pointing left and one to the right.

I remember saying to myself pick your feet up you bloody fool if anyone sees me they will think I am drunk Then a voice from behind said are you alright there I answered no I fear I have had a stroke, I think you have the voice said ill run to the nearest village to a phone in only seemed a few minutes and he was back, at the same time I felt a cold blast he said don’t worry the helicopter is here.

I have since after 3yrs traced that man with the help of one of my pc tutors his name is Paul Marks, I will be always be indebted to Paul and the chopper crew, who I also traced to Leeds Bradford Airport. Of the three man crew only one survives as two members have left the air ambulance service mores the pity because they are all heroes in my mind I hope I will get the chance to meet all these people who without them wouldn’t be here to write this story of my escape from death after being taken to Scarborough hospital.

I had a second stroke and choked on some food which caused aspiration which in turn caused pneumonia for good measure, I joke now sometimes but it has been no joke for me a nightmare in fact.
