Only a Number

by Keith Henman.
Before RAILWAY SLEEPER

Then . .what this?, hold on a minute why can't I move the left side of my body, and why am I dribbling like a baby, and who has just thumped me around the head with a railway sleeper?

It was the 23rd MARCH 1998, when I suffered my STROKE, which in turn brought on EPILEPSY. I've been asked to write a little about, my views on disability. So after great thought, I feel I'm not in the position to comment, as ALL STROKES ARE DIFFERENT. Also along with the treatment and recovery time, which will vary in the sort of STROKE in which you have had.

A Different Language. Speaking for myself, at the time I had not a clue what was happening. Different doctors and (so called) specialists talking in a language (which must be in the curriculum of the training of doctors) that not many people can understand. I'm lying in a hospital bed wandering what has happened.

Being in a state of anticipation, what was going to happen next? But alas I'm only a number in the NHS. It was some time before my senses come back, and I was able to ask questions, and speak to doctors and other members of staff.
